Founder’s Story:
Why the Exchange Network Was Created
The idea for Haven for Healing Exchange Network didn’t begin as a business concept. It began as a question:
How can we truly provide for one another without being so dependent on money… and still have our needs met?
This question didn’t come from theory. It came from lived experience. Both personally, and as a therapist, I saw the same pattern over and over again: It wasn’t really about money itself. It was about the cycle people were trapped in. No matter how hard I worked...they worked…No matter how responsible I would be or they tried to be…
There was this constant feeling of never being able to catch up.
Money was limited. Needs were not. And when something unexpected happened like illness, injury, disability, loss of work or something else, that felt very fragile. What was already a balancing act would eventually collapse affecting overall wellbeing and quality of life.
When Income Stops, But Value Does Not
As a therapist, I worked with individuals who suddenly lost their ability to earn income in traditional ways. But what stood out most was this: They didn’t lose their value.
They didn’t lose their ability to contribute.
They still had:
Knowledge
Skills
Time
Care
Creativity
Life experience
Yet in a system that only recognizes money as value…those contributions no longer counted.
And so many people struggle, not because they had nothing to offer…but because what they offered wasn’t being recognized in a meaningful or helpful way or through the monetized system we live in.
Searching for Another Way
This led to a deeper question: What if there were alternative, legal, and creative ways for people to meet their needs without being completely dependent on money?
Not to eliminate money…but to relieve the pressure of relying on it for everything.
To create something where:
People could still provide for themselves and each other
Contribution could exist beyond a paycheck
And value could be recognized in more human, practical ways
A Different Way to Recognize Value
The Exchange Network was created from that vision.
It is built on a simple but powerful belief:
Contribution is value.
Every legal skill, service, good, or form of support a person can offer has meaning because someone, somewhere, needs it.
This network creates a structured way for people to:
Contribute what they can
Receive what they need
Participate in a system that recognizes more than just monetary income
It is not about replacing money.
It is about breaking the cycle of limitation that money alone creates.
Restoring Balance, Purpose, and Connection
Over time, many people have set aside the things they love: their passions, interests, and natural gifts just to keep up with the demands of survival. And even then… many still fall behind.
By the end of the day, they’re exhausted.
Disconnected.
Unable to engage in what actually brings them peace.
The Exchange Network was also created with a deeper hope:
That people can begin to reconnect with those parts of themselves again.
That what brings someone joy such as teaching, creating, helping, building, sharing can also become a way to contribute and receive in return.
A System Built on Participation, Not Scarcity
This is not a system built on scarcity. It is a system built on participation.
Where:
People are not defined solely by their income
Contribution is recognized in many forms
Support becomes something we create together
Because when people are given the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways…They don’t just survive.
They begin to stabilize.
They begin to reconnect.
They begin to feel like they can finally… catch up.
And in many cases...for the first time...move forward.
Connect, contribute, and grow with us
